Created in 1991 on the initiative of the City of Blois, the Roseraie is located on the lower terrace of the Bishop’s gardens. In June, on a sunny day, you will discover this garden from the heights of the higher terrace, resplendent in colours and scents. Its creators have wanted every variety grown here to be fragrant and repeat flowering. Roses are combined with grass plants that produce a multitude of shapes and colours, in intimate spaces lined with red beech and ornamental apples. In the central axis of this composition, the basin is encircled with botanical roses and a collection of old roses. The first clearing brings together white, ivory and yellow roses. In the second one, pink and purple flowers are combined with ground-covering roses bearing grapes of small flowers. The avenue linking them is lined with orange roses, with flowers that bloom in yellow and fade away crimson or, with dog rose foliage, pale roses rising up the pergolas (Fleur d'Orchidée). Finally, in a shrine of beech, appears the rose ‘Roseraie de Blois’, created in celebration of this rose garden’s creation.
