Rather than a real castle, Talcy seems more like a “house in the prairie” of typical ‘Beaucian’ character. This is the originality and major asset of this country home in a region that counts so many castles. Renovation of the gardens started in 1996, inspired by proposals by Joelle Weill, a D.P.L.G. (government diploma) landscape gardener. Creation of the conservatory orchard has revived its productive mission, as a great agricultural concern in the XVIIIth century. Apples and pears are the stars here. The old varieties are trained in espalier: palmette, four and five branches, oblique, Cossonnet, double U-shaped; candelabra, fence patterns, simple and double cordons. The high branches build the open wind orchard. There are also enchanting lines of walnut trees, cherry trees and apple trees. Work continues with the planting of young new plants every year, in the quest for new shapes: Legendre palmettes, double candelabra, joint double U, goblet, open book... In parallel, in each of the orchards more old-time fruit varieties are to be planted, such as prunes, medlar trees, blueberries, red currants and vines…
