Parc du Poutyl

Parc du Poutyl is located in the Val de Loire on the left bank of River Loiret, right in the centre of Olivet. The Loiret River is a natural border between the Val, which is liable to flooding, and the Sologne plateau. In the early XVIIIth century, Maréchal d’Escures constituted the vast estate. He brought together a good hundred meadows, vines and woods. He had the castle erected on the beautiful terrace that still dominates the river. During the Second Empire, a great pediment was fitted out on the castle’s frontage. It was also probably at that time that the South gate closing the park was installed. In 1941, the town of Olivet acquired the property and turned it into a park and sports ground, open to the public. A school, a youth centre and a swimming pool was later added to the park.
