The origin of the “”Jardin des Plantes” goes back to the year 1640, when the local Society of Apothecaries created a botanical garden established at Ravelin Saint-Laurent. It was transferred to the present site in 1834. The “Jardin des Plantes” is graced with parterres, a line-up of trees that includes some splendid specimens to admire: chestnut tree, red beech, bald cypress, as well as a great rose garden. In the greenhouses, many exotic plants find appropriate shelter: ferns, Piperaceae, Araceae and Euphorbiaceae with superbly colourful foliage, insectivorous plants and orchid specimens. Educational poster information is at hand to help visitors around.
