Jardin du Château du Moulin et Conservatoire de la Fraise
Type :
- Formal french garden
- Special collections
- Kitchen garden
This castle erected in the XVth century bears the name of its creator, Philippe du Moulin. The vegetable garden was redesigned in the early XXth century with the assistance of Docteur Carvallo and offers an interesting example of this classical castle feature. Three long avenues lined with beds take you to the vegetable garden’s square beds. Lines of espaliered apple trees mark the transversal paths. The dimensions of the beds decrease, following a technique dating back to the XVIIIth century, a play on perspective intended to give the illusion of a larger garden. The Strawberry Conservatory recently installed in the vegetable garden is an opportunity to find out about all the different existing varieties of this delicious fruit: - A museum documents the history of the strawberry, its evolution, its uses, with technical data sheets on production, generation of new varieties etc. - A game for children that parents can also enjoy, “In Pursuit of Lady Strawberry” - A “Friend or Foe” labyrinth - In the kitchen garden, the beds show little-known, unknown and original strawberry varieties Strawberry tastings are also organised.
