Prieuré Saint-Laurent-de-Manzay
Created in 1996 on the site of an ancient priory, the garden-conservatory for dyeing and aromatic plants is situated in “Champagne berrichonne”. The Prieuré Saint Lurent de Manzay was founded in the XIVthe century.
It belongs to the Order of Saint Marc de l’Artige. At that time, Manzay was famous for its great wool fair, where dyers and vendors of sewing materials gathered on Saint Laurent’s Day (August 10th).
Today, through this garden, the priory is a bridge to the past. Along a walk across its15,000m2 area, the visitor will discover close to 300 plant species (from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages) that were used in the manufacturing of textiles, in culinary art and in medical cures.
