The outing will give you an opportunity to discover a home still inhabited by its owners, who will delight in sharing their passion for gardens with you. A remarkable example of XVIIth century brick architecture, Château de La Bussière stands isolated on a 6-hectare lake within a vast park designed by Le Nôtre. After visiting the castle, the stroll will lead you to the family kitchen garden, which since 1992 has been undergoing a long and careful restoration. Covering 1,5 hectares, set lower down and enclosed by walls, it has come back to life under the passionate care of its owners who grow ancient plant species there. The impressive collection of vegetables, fruits, condiments and medicinal plants is laid out in a manner characteristic of the XVIIIth century. The fruit tree and box lined avenues divide the kitchen garden into ‘carrés’, square beds containing ancient vegetable varieties, tomatoes, small fruits, ‘planches’, board-shaped beds with cutting flowers, winter vegetables, cucurbitaceae and ‘carreaux’; tile-shaped beds with condiments, irises, a labyrinth of simples… The walk continues to the side of the lake, where the reflections of the castle and of many great majestic trees (linden, cedars, red beech…) lie. The cabin circuit, with new constructions added every year, delights grown-ups as much as children.
