Founded in 1853, the horticulture society of Eure-et-Loir decided in 1856 to use part of its resources to the creation of an experimental garden. It chooses to establish it in the colourful "Grands Prés" district, enough far from the center town.
For a long time, the Eure's Valley until Lèves was the favorite walk of the residents of Chartres.
September 20th, 1886, the property is sold at the the horticulture society for the price of 25000 francs.
There was important works to carry out. The broken nature of the ground made it possible to make a varied choice of shrubs and to create a large perspective, with below a small lake and its river supplied with a clear water source.
The landscaper of Chartres origin Eugène Heurtault layed out the garden.
The Chartres 's public service looks after the garden since 1954.
The walker discovers splendid trees more than centenaries resulting from the first plantations and younger subjects planted during the restoration of the garden in the middle of the 20th century.
With more than 90 species, varieties and cultivars of the temperates areas, the visitor can discover trees from America, Asia, Europe and Mediterranean.
