The city of Châteauroux enjoys a very exceptional space of 450 ha green area, the river Indre crossed it during about 10 kms and its national forest. The municipality privileges the variety of the green spaces : leisure park, sports grounds, natural sites, exceptional gardens….These different spaces are managed according to their used.

The public garden and the Cordeliers’ garden :
The public garden, a space of 5 ha, gives to the visitors various atmospheres and landscaped spaces. The water is everywhere with many flowers massifs, rock garden and lawns. This garden shows a botanical attraction with collections of long-lived plants and noteworthy trees. It extends to the south by the Cordeliers‘ garden, on a surface of 7000 m². Fitted up of terraces, the garden présents flowery regular « à la française » massifs. The nearness of the XIIIe century Couvent of Cordeliers and the restored washhouses give an exceptional historical charm.

The Capucins’ garden :
This garden of 6400 m², completely restored in 2001, is located behind the law court. It presents French style structures, regular walks and old trees laid out in line. In the middle, a fountain is surrounded by geometrical flowery massifs

The landscaped cemetery of Cré :
This landscaped cemetery, covering 8 ha, shows large winding paths leading towards green islands. These last ones are planted by leafy trees and conifers, on large lawns. The columbarium presents pergolas covered with wisterias, climbing roses and other climbing.

Also to visit : the square Charles de Gaulle, the Vallée Verte, the leisure park of Belle-Isle, the meadow Saint-Gildas, the municipal greenhouses with their collections, the family gardens.
